WALNUT PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- An armed robbery suspect was shot and killed by police in Walnut Park Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
The fatal shooting occurred at around 12:30 p.m. on Seville Avenue and Walnut Street, according to the South Gate Police Department.
The suspect was wanted in connection to two armed robberies that occurred eight days prior to the fatal shooting, according to police.
The suspect reportedly met someone last week for an exchange but instead robbed them at gunpoint. He then fled on foot and robbed a second victim at gunpoint.
"There was an agreement to meet up and it went south from there," said SGPD Chief Darren Arakawa. "It was an incident involving brandishing a firearm when he was attempting to escape from the first victim."
The two armed robberies occurred minutes apart.
"There was evidence that was left at the day of the incident and following up from that information detectives were able to locate this vehicle," said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Daniel Vizcarra.
Detectives located the suspect Wednesday in Huntington Park and followed him into Walnut Park, where his life came to an end in a hail of gunfire.
The suspect sat in a van in a parking lot, pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officers.
That's when the officers fired at least a dozen shots and killed the suspect.
Two guns were recovered at the scene.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
LASD is now investigating the officer-involved shooting.
The name of the suspect was not released. No further information was immediately available.
