WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash on the 605 Freeway, which caused both cars to catch fire and temporarily shut down the northbound part of the freeway in Whittier Monday morning.
Authorities received a call shortly before 2 a.m. on reports of a car crash on the freeway near Slauson Avenue. The caller told California Highway Patrol officers that a black Chevrolet Camaro was driving recklessly and weaving in and out of traffic.
A man was killed, but three people were pulled to safety by firefighters. The driver of the Camaro fled the scene and no description of the person was available.
A SigAlert was issued for the closure of all lanes on the northbound side of the 605 Freeway between Slauson Avenue and Telegraph Road near Santa Fe Springs. The lanes were closed until 7 a.m.
The cause of the crash was unknown and under investigation.
