BURBANK, Calif. (KABC) -- Ikea broke ground Tuesday on its new store in Burbank that will take up 456,000 square feet, making it the largest store in the country.
The company plans to move its current Burbank store to the new spot in the 800 block of San Fernando Boulevard, where additions will feature a supervised children's play area and a larger restaurant serving its iconic Swedish food.
It will replace the 242,000-square-foot store that opened in November 1990 at the Golden State (5) Freeway and San Fernando Boulevard.
The store is expected to open in spring 2017.
