Albert Einstein Academy employee accused of inappropriate behavior with minors

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- Police say a staff member at Albert Einstein Academy in Santa Clarita is being investigated for inappropriate behavior with minors.

Details of the allegations were not released, but police said the investigation launched after several minors reported inappropriate conduct from the unidentified school employee. Police say there is no indication of sexual contact.

According to Principal Edward Gika, the employee, who has since been terminated from the school because of the allegations, was a "male member of the athletic department." Gika told Eyewitness News that this was the employee's first year at the school and he was an "at-will" employee who was not bound by a contract.

"School leadership was made aware of very serious allegations involving a staff member. Be assured that we are taking all proper and necessary action, and that investigation into this matter is being handled by the proper authorities," Gika told parents in a letter obtained by Eyewitness News.

The allegations were initially reported to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, but it was later determined that the alleged crimes occurred in Tujunga, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles Police Department.

No arrests have been made. The LAPD's Sexually Exploited Child Unit is handling the investigation.
