ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- A 35-year-old man was arrested in connection to a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting that left one man dead and another man wounded on the 91 Freeway in Anaheim in July.
David Arzate Cabrera was arrested late Friday afternoon, Anaheim Police Department Lt. Bob Dunn said.
The shooting occurred on the westbound 91 Freeway east of the 57 Freeway around 8:09 p.m. on July 14.
Police say Agustin Villegas, 32, of Anaheim was shot and killed as he sat in the front passenger seat of a white Ford F-150 being driven by his 42-year-old male cousin, who was also shot. The two men's sons, ages 13 and 15, were in the backseat of the Ford and were uninjured.
Investigators say the victims were traveling westbound on the 91 Freeway when the front windows shattered from an apparent shooting. According to police, Villegas immediately became unresponsive. The driver steered the Ford to the gore point on the freeway and helped his son call 911.
Police say Villegas had no known criminal ties and was the sole provider for his family.
Cabrera was booked at the Anaheim Police Department Temporary Detention Facility on suspicion of murder. Anaheim police say he is also suspected of possessing a controlled substance and a loaded firearm.
He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail. The motive for the shooting remains unknown.
