Revised A-Town project headed to Anaheim City Council

ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- Anaheim city officials will vote on a scaled-down project Tuesday that will turn the area around Angel Stadium into a shopping and condo district.

When plans for the site called A-Town approved in 2005, Lennar Corporation had plans for high-rises-up to 35 stories, thousands of homes and 150,000 square feet of retail and office space along Katella Avenue and State College Boulevard.

Under a revised proposal, the plan has reduced to a more community friendly size.

The project entire area will be downsized to 50,000 square feet of commercial space and at least 1,400 condos and apartments. The buildings will be no more than seven stories high.

The revised plans for the site within Anaheim's Platinum Triangle already received approval from the city's Planning Commission last month.

Bill Hall whose business sits right next to the property said he likes what is being proposed instead of the high-rise residential towers.

"The market just weren't going to accept," said Bill Hall, an Anaheim resident. "So I think it's a positive thing and if it leads to an environment like we see in San Diego around the stadium, I think the community will only benefit from it."

Two public parks for a space within walking distance from Angel Stadium were also planned.

"The traffic may be an issue because traffic is an issue as it is, but you have new stores and restaurants that go in," said Toy Ma'ae of Anahiem. "We kind of forget about that once we start to enjoy the benefits of living across the way or shopping."

People will have a chance to voice their opinion before city council votes on the revised plan Tuesday afternoon.
