AFTRA reaches tentative deal with networks

A top entertainment union is avoiding a repeat of the writers strike, negotiating a new deal with the major networks and producers.Late Sunday night, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, or AFTRA, reached an agreement on a tentative new three year contract.

According to the Hollywood Reporter and Variety, it includes higher wages and sets up a residual pay structure for new media, such as internet downloads.

The agreement must be approved by the board and ratified by members before it can take effect.
