SACRAMENTO The nation's first law to control greenhouse gas emission by curbing sprawl is set to pass the state assembly on Thursday, according to the L.A. Times.

The legislation would require subdivisions, highways and commercial strips to be built close together to reduce driving.

The senate votes on the bill Friday, and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to sign it once the state passes a budget.
