Man caught after deputy-involved shooting

ROSEMEAD, Calif. About a 5-block area near Walnut Grove and Rush street had been shut down as police searched for the suspect on Wednesday.

The suspect was hiding in a garage close to the scene where the incident began.

Deputies responded to a call of a disturbance at a home in the 2400 block of Earle Street shortly after 7:30 a.m.

When deputies arrived, the suspect was leaving the scene in a Toyota SUV. When deputies ordered him to stop, he continued.

Officials say the suspect hit a female deputy in the leg with his vehicle and that was when the shooting started.

"At this time, we're unaware of how many shots were fired," said Sgt. Aura Sierra from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect abandoned the vehicle at Angelus and Klingerman and fled on foot.

Temple Intermediate School was locked down as authorities set up a large containment area to try to trap the suspect. All kids have been allowed to go home.

The deputy was taken to an urgent care center. She is expected to be OK.

The suspect is also in the hospital. They say he has an injury to his shoulder. Authorities aren't clear on how or when he was hurt.
