The high-voltage power lines are critical to maintaining a steady supply of power to the city, especially as demand for energy rises throughout the day.
As a precaution to the potential loss of power transmission, the LADWP has activated all in-basin power plants to generate extra energy.
The LADWP said the power distribution system was functioning normally Monday, but because of the threat, combined with the typical high energy demand on hot days, customers should make every effort to reduce their energy demand.
Customers are asked to turn off air conditioners if possible or otherwise run it at 78 degrees or higher. It also suggests turning off lights when not in use and avoid using appliances whenever possible.
