New high school opens in Orange County

YORBA LINDA, Calif. Yorba Linda High School welcomed its inaugural freshman and sophomore classes Tuesday morning.

Additional grades will be added over the next two years, when enrollment is expected to top out at 2,000 students.

The new school opened its doors despite ongoing construction on the $140 million campus.

When it's completed, the new school will feature 44 classrooms, a technology building, a theater, a swimming pool, a football field and other athletic facilities for the new Mustangs.

But from now until the end of October, students are making due with modular classrooms and no cafeteria. Still, students didn't seem to mind.

The school has been a longtime coming. School officials say the city has been pushing for it for four decades.
