'Officer on a Train' day keeps rails safe

ANAHEIM, Calif. It was the fourth annual "Officer on a Train" safety event held in Orange County, hosted by California Operation Lifesaver.

Police officers from Union Pacific and Burlington Northern, and local law enforcement agencies teamed up to police railroad crossings throughout the railways of Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

Those who trespassed, failed to stop at railroad crossing signals, or drove around lowered railroad crossing gates were issued citations. That included drivers as well as pedestrians. All in an effort to heighten awareness about the importance of rail safety.
