Autopsy pending on woman's burned body

LOS ANGELES Sheriff's detectives say the body was found Saturday night after neighbors reported a rubbish fire in an alley near the 200 block of West 126th Street. They say a trash can was on fire, with the woman's body inside.

A man who did not want to be identified says he found the body.

"And I went over there and I started putting the fire out," said the man.

"Then when I started hitting the ground I said, 'Oh wait! This is a body!' And then I was like, 'Oh my goodness!' After I did that, I just kept on doing it, I just kept on trying to put it out. It was too late."

The coroner's office says the woman appears to be caucasian.

Detectives say the body was inside a 50-gallon commercial trash can and had been doused with an accelerant.
