Call for federal probe into L.A. Station fire

LOS ANGELES The 250-square-mile fire killed two firefighters and destroyed 89 homes in August.

Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff of Burbank is calling for a panel of the House Appropriations Committee to determine whether the Forest Service should have called in more water-dropping aircraft on the second day of the fire.

Records indicate that the agency canceled and then re-ordered additional firefighting airplanes.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich is also calling for Congress to step in and probe the response time and decisions made by the U.S. Forest Service. Antonovich made his request for a formal investigation in a letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein.
