L.A. County Assessor Rick Auerbach retiring

LOS ANGELES "I have long felt that I would know when it was time to retire and turn this job over to the next generation and that time is now," Auerbach said in a statement.

The 61-year-old said he wants to spend more time with his family. Auerbach said he is recommending that the Board of Supervisors not appoint a successor, but allow Assistant Assessor Robert Quon to take over while someone else concentrates on running for office in June.

Quon has said he will not run for Assessor. Regardless, Auerbach said he thinks the next Assessor should be should be someone from within the department and said he will be making an election endorsement in the near future.
