Camp Pendleton area to expect increased noise

The United States Marine Corps is advising local residents and visitors that mine-clearing, line-charge aircraft and mortar live fire may increase noise levels at Camp Pendleton this week.Camp Pendleton officials say units will be firing 1,750 pounds of high explosive munitions into the Whiskey impact area as part of mine-clearing, line-charge exercises from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday April 7 and Thursday April 8. Aircraft will be dropping ordnance in the Zulu impact area Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Units will fire high-explosive munitions into the Zulu impact area from 6 a.m. to midnight as part of mortar live fire exercises Thursday and Friday.

Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the firing may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away.
