Polanski makes first appearance after release

July 17, 2010 12:00:00 AM PDT
Roman Polanski made his first public appearance since being released from house arrest at the Montreux Jazz Festival on Saturday.

The 76-year-old director arrived Saturday evening in an SUV with tinted windows. Once out of the vehicle, he was quickly ushered into an elevator, as security personnel guarded him from eager photographers.

Polanski's wife, the actress and singer Emmanuelle Seigner, performed shortly after his arrival.

The Oscar-winning director was freed this month from house arrest when the Swiss government refused to deport him to the United States. He still faces an Interpol warrant in effect for 188 countries for a 1977 child sex case.
