Detective Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) is a forensic accountant who's more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets. Detective Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg) is a tough guy who has been stuck with Allen as his partner since an unfortunate run-in with Derek Jeter.

Allen and Terry idolize the city's top cops, Danson (Dwayne Johnson) and Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson), but when an opportunity arises for the Other Guys to step up, things don't quite go as planned.

I am not a fan of Will Ferrell. There, I said it. I don't enjoy many of his movies, but I continue to watch, hoping for something special. For the first hour, there is a lot of satisfaction with the chemistry between Ferrell and Wahlberg. I laughed out loud at some of the antics, including a moment when Hoitz verbally bashes Allen. Allen then turns the insults around, eventually crushing Hoitz's ego. With no other recourse, Hoitz throws a cup of scalding, hot coffee in Allen's lap.

It is silly moments like this that are expected to carry the film throughout. Unfortunately, it doesn't.

After about an hour of legitimate laughs, the laughs became much less frequent. Instead of building to something better, the movie becomes more of an undisciplined train wreck.

A running joke that helps to keep things moving is the fact that gorgeous women seem to all be attracted to Allen. Even his wife, Sheila (Eva Mendes), is gorgeous, but he continually calls her a disappointment and anything but beautiful.

I have to admit this one is one of Ferrell's better efforts, but it just feels out of control.
