Critical Mass hit L.A. Friday night

LOS ANGELES Riders wanted to draw attention to the pollution traffic creates and to encourage drivers to use cleaner forms of transportation. Some were also trying to raise awareness about driving safely while bicyclists are on the road.

Los Angeles Police Department Chief /*Charlie Beck*/ warned bicyclists who were participating to follow the rules of the road or face arrest. There were several citations given throughout the night but police said 90 percent of riders followed the law.

Friday's ride began at 7 p.m. at Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue in Koreatown. There was no official route and various groups broke off on different paths.
