A special, reduced rate enacted in Riverside County to spur more animal adoptions is about to come to an end.The Riverside County Department of Animal Services has been offering $20 for dogs and $15 for cats that had been at a county shelter for at least a week. The regular rates are $105 for a dog and $95 for a cat.

But the agency announced that the special rate will end Thursday, September 30.

"We think this lowered rate helped some adopters save a little money that probably went to pet food or other items to better the life of their new family member," Director of the Riverside County Department of Animal Services, Robert Miller, said in a news release. "It was a pleasure to offer this rate."
