Firefighters injured in Riverside brush fire

RIVERSIDE, Calif. The fire burned along the Santa Ana river bottom. It was approximately 40 percent contained by 6 p.m. Tuesday.

About 20 homes were evacuated in Riverside, according to the Riverside Fire Dept.

The fire was reported at about 12:30 p.m. near Grassy Trail Dr.

Power lines in the area were damaged.

Fire crews and water-dropping helicopters successfully kept flames from reaching homes.

Two firefighters were injured battling the blaze, according to the department. They were both hospitalized.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
