Lowe's shutting down two IE stores

November 9, 2010 12:00:00 AM PST
In the Inland Empire, one of the hardest hit areas in the country in the current recession, the home improvement store Lowe's has closed two stores. The Hallmark Parkway store in San Bernardino and the Apple Valley store on Dale Evans Drive have shut down.

A Lowe's spokesman said the stores didn't reach initial sales projections and didn't improve over time.

"I'm disappointed primarily because we have a lot of homes in the area and it adds to the increased stress level for people when they have to travel far away to get things for their homes," said Millie Bolan, a shopper at the store.

Lowe's assured customers that its other stores will still be open to serve customers. Employees who lost their jobs due to the closures were encouraged to apply at other Lowe's stores.
