Search your closet for essential fall pieces

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. "In these challenging times, spending a month's salary on clothing and accessories is just not an option," said Jane Loddo of Harper's Bazaar.

Chances are, you already have some of fall's essential pieces, so instead of heading to the mall, search your closet at home.

Reach for a classic, like a camel-colored trench coat from Ann Taylor.

"The new season is here, and classics are bigger and better than ever," Loddo said. "It's perfect as the temperature begins to drops, you'll look stylish and you'll be warm as well."

Another way to save money is to pull out those stored away sweaters.

"This is the time of year when we want to wear cozy pieces that we have in the closet, whether it's a chunky knit or a cashmere and wool blend, it's all about the cozy knits," Loddo said.

Dig deep into the closets and look for a good cocktail dress. Loddo said it's a good idea to have a dress that you could wear to an upcoming party, a wedding or that special night on the town.

A classic riding boot, like the gold-bucked boots from Vince Camuto, is another fall essential and a great investment.

"It never loses its appeal, so it looks great with the items you have in your closet as well, your skinny jeans, wool trousers of the season," Loddo said. "You can wear it and enjoy it for seasons to come."
