2008 Santa Ana rape suspect arrested

SANTA ANA, Calif. A 16-year-old girl was walking on the 2300 block of South Main St. in Santa Ana on Jan. 21, 2008, when she was attacked.

The suspect allegedly grabbed the girl and dragged her behind a building and raped her.

The suspect was described as a male Hispanic, about 20 to 25 years old, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall with a stocky build. A composite sketch was released to the public.

DNA evidence implicated Juan Avila as a possible suspect in the case. Avila was arrested Thursday night. He is charged with rape, kidnapping and sodomy.
