Study finds vitamin D helps babies' breathing

LOS ANGELES Researchers found that when pregnant women take vitamin D supplements, their babies have a lower risk of breathing problems.

Experts followed more than 900 newborns and measured vitamin D levels in blood taken from their umbilical cord.

Five years later, doctors found that infants with the highest levels of vitamin D at birth had lower risks for respiratory infections and asthma.
