Secondhand smoke linked to ear infections

January 31, 2011 12:50:55 AM PST
There's more evidence that secondhand smoke can put children at greater risk for ear infections.

Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health and the Research Institute for Tobacco Free Society in Ireland found that as rates for smoking households dropped, so did visits to the doctor for children with ear infections.

While smoke-free homes nearly doubled from 1993 to 2006, ear infection rates dropped nearly five percent. Hospitalizations decreased by nearly 10 percent.
