Researchers say brain scans can be used to predict how successful a smoker will be at quitting.

In a study done at UCLA, experts monitored participants with an MRI while the subjects watched commercials about quitting smoking.

Experts said the participants who showed activity in their medial prefrontal cortex were significantly more likely to smoke less in the month that followed.

Researchers said the next step will be to determine which advertisements are the most effective.
