A 40-year-old man is recovering from hypothermia after being swept down the rain swollen Los Angeles River.

A police helicopter spotted the man late Friday night, hanging onto the Metro Blue Line trestle near Del Amo Boulevard in Long Beach.

The man was apparently trying to wade across the river when he got swept away.

Firefighters were able to pull him to safety.
