A 21-year-old driver was killed after his car crashed into a light pole while racing down a street in Garden Grove.

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. on Sunday on Deodara Drive north of Westminster Avenue. The driver, identified as Caesar Michel, was the only occupant of the crashed car and was trapped in the wreckage.

Fire crews extricated him and transported him to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Upon investigation, Garden Grove police found that there were two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed going southbound on Deodara Street. Michel lost control of his car and rammed into a light pole.

The other driver, who is the Michel's brother, remained at the scene and spoke with police. Authorities said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision.
