Studies have found that for adults, a lack of sleep can translate into a higher number on the scale. But now, researchers say that young kids risk gaining weight if they don't get enough sleep, too.

The study, published in the British Medical Journal, found that the fewer hours a child slept, the greater their risk of a having a higher body mass index (BMI) by the age of 7.

They also found that for every additional hour of sleep a child got, the risk of obesity went down by 60 percent.
