She had recently postponed five shows after she was diagnosed with laryngitis. An otolaryngology specialist told her absolute voice rest was imperative.
Adele was intent on resuming her tour in San Francisco on June 4 before learning of her condition.
"I'm really frustrated. I was hoping with a week's rest I'd be better to sing again straight away. However there is absolutely nothing I can do but take the doctor's advice and rest some more. I'm so sorry. See you soon, love Adele," the singer said in a statement released Friday.
Rescheduled dates for the canceled concerts have yet to be set. Fans with passes to the June 9 Hollywood Palladium concert were encouraged to hang on to their tickets for now.
