Man breaks into Celine Dion's home, draws bath

MONTREAL

This wasn't your typical break-in. Police said while the man was inside, he raided the refrigerator and even ran himself a bath.

"He opened the water faucets, was pouring a nice warmish bath (and) he even managed to eat some pastry that was in the fridge," said Laval police spokesman Franco Di Genova.

The alarm system went off, alerting police, who then responded to the home with a canine unit. Police worked their way through the house, starting with the basement and finally confronted the man on the main floor.

"The suspect was coming down the big staircase and was asking: 'Hey, guys what are you doing here?'," Di Genova said.

"So the officers replied: 'What are you doing here?' and they proceeded to put him under arrest."

Dion and her family were not home at the time. The 43-year-old singer and her husband, Rene Angelil, primarily reside in Florida but use the Laval residence when they come home to Quebec.

Police said it appears the suspect jumped a fence and used a garage door opener left in an unlocked car to get in the house.

Daniel Bedard, a Laval resident, was arraigned Tuesday on charges including breaking and entering, auto theft and causing property damage.
