The number of infected Android apps has increased nearly 500 percent since July, according to IBM Internet Security Services.

Most new mobile malware targets Android phones.

Security experts say Android may be an easier target than its competitors, such as Apple, because Google does not control which apps are offered in its Android Market.

Meanwhile, Apple's iPhone is now the top smartphone choice among individuals who use a mobile device to access networks in the workplace. The iPhone has almost half of the market. BlackBerry now has about a third of those users, while other brands eat into its share.
