Judge upholds ruling for extradition of Beresford-Redman

LOS ANGELES

Beresford-Redman is accused of murdering his wife, Monica Beresford-Redman, in April 2010 in Cancun, Mexico.

Bruce Beresford-Redman left Mexico days after his wife was found murdered at a hotel resort where the couple had been staying with their two children.

The couple had been having marital difficulties and were in Mexico to repair the relationship, according to Beresford-Redman and the family.

Beresford-Redman had challenged the extradition order. He was being held pending the ruling.

U.S. District Judge Philip Gutierrez said Wednesday there was competent evidence pointing to Beresford-Redman's guilt in the 2010 murder, thereby clearing the way for the extradition to go forward.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jacqueline Chooljian had earlier ruled for the extradition, but it was delayed pending appeal.
