Criminal charges have been filed in the alleged hoax over an abandoned baby in Long Beach.

On Monday night, 52-year-old Sonia Hernandez claimed she found a newborn infant abandoned at a gas station.

Police say her daughter had actually given birth to the baby girl a few hours earlier.

Paloma Espinoza, 28, is facing charges of child endangerment and child abandonment. Hernandez is accused of filing a false police report and obstructing the investigation.
