A witness said the victim was hit while running from the center divider toward the right shoulder near Crenshaw Boulevard around 4:35 a.m.
The driver did stop at the scene and called police. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.
The incident forced the closure of several lanes of traffic, but those lanes have since reopened.
