Man hits Wal-Mart worker in Palmdale over stolen liquor

PALMDALE, Calif.

Investigators said the alleged incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. on May 28 at the store located near 47th street and Avenue S. The victim, identified as 65-year-old William Johnston, noticed the suspect walking out of the store with two bottles of liquor that had not been paid for.

As a Wal-Mart greeter, Johnston asked to see a receipt. The suspect struck him in the face with one of the bottles and then took off.

Johnston says he suffered a deep gash on the right side of his head. He also injured the left side of his head after smacking it against the ground when he fell and passed out.

"Very shocking, very disappointing," he said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact authorities at (661) 272-2446.

"For just a bottle of booze, you would cause someone to get their life ruined because of you?" Johnston said. "It's just kind of changed my life completely."
