August 20, 2012 Walmart will begin offering layaway a month earlier, on September 16th. The option lets customers keep an item on hold at the store and pay for it in installments. Walmart charges a $15 fee to open a layaway account. This year, customers will receive that $15 fee back on a store gift card if they complete their layaway payments by December 14th.
