One person was killed and three others were injured following a multi-vehicle collision on the southbound 710 Freeway in Long Beach on Friday night.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened north of Anaheim Street around 10 p.m. Authorities say a vehicle was going the wrong way on the 710 Freeway - it was traveling northbound when it entered southbound lanes on the Broadway ramp.

That car struck two vehicles. In the first vehicle, one woman was injured and the other was killed. Two others in the second vehicle were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say the wrong-way driver tried to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended by witnesses until police arrived. That driver was taken into custody. It remains unknown whether alcohol or drugs were involved.

All lanes of the freeway were shut after the crash but reopened around 11 p.m.
