Sun Valley house fire: 5 injured, 2 seriously

The blaze was reported at shortly after midnight in the 8000 block of Stanwin Avenue. Responding firefighters found the one-story, four-bedroom residence in flames.

There were four people inside the home at the time of the fire, but just two were injured.

A 50-year-old woman suffered second and third-degree burns to 25 percent of her body. She was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. Also, a 45-year-old man suffered a minor respiratory injury and was treated at a local hospital, where he was listed in fair to serious condition. In addition to the two residents, three neighbors suffered minor injuries after trying to rescue the victims.

All four residents were displaced following the fire. Fire officials said the house had smoke alarms, but it's not clear whether they were functional. The home did not have fire sprinklers.

The fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes by 45 firefighters. The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
