LAX travel: Few flight delays as loved ones arrive home for Christmas

The rush to make it home for Christmas is still on for some. While many people opened presents Tuesday morning, others were still arriving at Los Angeles International Airport to the open arms of family and friends.

Flight delays at LAX have been few and far between Tuesday. Millions of people are expected to pass through the airport for the holiday season, with Wednesday and Jan. 2 being the busiest days.

The slow day is a relief for those waiting for their loved ones to come home.

"I was not expecting her, she decided to come two days ago," said Carolina Calderon, who picked up her mother from LAX Tuesday morning. "It's a very good surprise to have her here."

Travelers in other parts of the country aren't so lucky, however. Kentucky is under a blizzard watch, and Kansas and Oklahoma are under a winter storm warning with freezing rain and snow expected Tuesday. Further south, there is a chance of small tornadoes and thunderstorms that could happen from east Texas to north Florida.
