Armed Fillmore man fatally shot by deputies after gunman on campus reported

FILLMORE, Calif.

A man with a gun was reported at Mountain Vista Elementary School. The caller described the suspect, the gun and vehicle and license plate.

Responding deputies located the suspect standing outside his residence on the 700 block of Blaine Avenue. The suspect was armed with a handgun.

The suspect ignored orders to drop his weapon, according to the sheriff's department. He then fired his gun. A deputy shot back, striking the suspect.

The suspect was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center, where the suspect was later pronounced dead.

The suspect was identified as Josue Jimenez, 33. Jimenez was found to be in possession of two handguns at the time of the shooting.

The sheriff's department said Jimenez's shot was later determined to be fired at a dog. The dog was struck and later died from its injury.

The incident was under investigation.
