Sylmar suspect arrested for stalking students near schools

SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES

Jhismer Aguilar was arrested on 14 misdemeanor counts of annoying children and endangering them.

Aguilar was actually interviewed by detectives May 21 after a 12-year-old victim took a picture of his car following a stalking incident near Sylmar High School.

The judge set bail at $545,000, which authorities say is higher than usual because the judge thought Aguilar presented a danger to society.

The stalking victims, ranging in age 12 to 16, identified Aguilar as the man who frequented Olive Vista Middle School in a black 1995 Honda. Authorities say he circled the schools and called out to the victims, sometimes even ordering them to get into his car.

Since investigators publicized these incidents last week, three more victims have come forward. In total, six girls were approached.

Investigators say Aguilar is unemployed and lives in Sylmar, within one mile of Tyler Street and Dronfield Avenue.

One victim had noticed Aguilar on multiple occasions and remarked that he had stopped hanging out there last week.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
