Splash Central keeps dogs cool in Southern California heat wave

CULVER CITY, Calif.

Doggie Central in Culver City is one fun way to keep your dog cool. Their Splash Central facility offers an indoor, solar-heated pool for dogs to swim in.

Is it Fido's first time in the pool? Don't worry, says Doggie Central supervisor Eddie Perez. His crew will teach your dog the ways of the water.

"Every dog knows how to swim, but not every dog is confident," said Perez. "So we need to make sure that they know how to swim correctly and not panic when they get all that water splashed in their face."

Along with swimming lessons, playtime at the pool includes open swim time and dock diving.

If you and your pooch can't make it out to Doggie Central, here are some tips to keeping pets cool at home:

  • Give pets plenty of water.
  • Keep pets in a shady place.
  • Never leave animals in parked vehicles.
  • Watch for signs of overheating, like excessive panting, accelerated heat rate and difficulty breathing.
