The fire broke out on the second floor of the Eugenia B. Hannon Apartments just after 8:30 p.m.
The Los Angeles Fire Department says 38 firefighters responded to the scene and put out the blaze in about 14 minutes. The fire was contained to a single unit of the three-story campus housing building.
Two campus security officers were examined for possible smoke inhalation, according to LAFD.
Officials say fewer than 12 occupants of the apartment complex were displaced by the fire but will be able to stay in other on-campus housing units.
The fire appears to have been caused by an electrical problem, according to investigators. Damage was estimated at about $14,000.
