Torrance arson suspect sought for 2 residential fires

TORRANCE, Calif.

UPDATE: Arson suspect killed in police shoot-out at Middle School.

Police say that shortly after midnight, Asa James Dolak set fire to an apartment on the 16700 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, where his ex-girlfriend and their 2-year-old son lived. Two hours later, he allegedly set fire to a relative's home on the 3200 block of Opal Avenue.

Investigators say the first fire came after an argument between Dolak and his ex-girlfriend. She escaped, but firefighters had to rescue the boy. The child was taken to a hospital to be observed and is expected to be OK.

Authorities say they spoke to Dolak on the phone. They say he told them he's mad at police, family and his ex-girlfriend. He also threatened to kill anyone who comes near him.

Dolak was described as a white male with dark hair and dark eyes. He is 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighs about 135 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweater, gray pants and tennis shoes.

Dolak is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts was asked to contact police at (310) 618-5570.
