4 deputies seriously injured in Blythe Jail inmate attack

BLYTHE, Calif.

Two deputies at the jail were conducting security checks of inmate cells at about 2:20 a.m. when they were assaulted by inmates.

Two more deputies responded to assist the victims who were physically fighting with the attacking inmates, according to the sheriff's department. Those two deputies were also assaulted by the inmates.

All four deputies were seriously injured and were given medical treatment at a local hospital.

Officers from the Blythe Police Department, California Highway Patrol and the Sheriff's Colorado River Station responded to assist jail personnel. The inmates remained secure and were unable to escape.

Four inmates were identified in the attack. Fabian Florence Perez, 30, from Indio; Joseph Roy Scott, 25, from Indio; Louie Aguilar, 33, from Blythe; and David Gazcon Jr., 34, from Desert Hot Springs face criminal charges including attempted murder, attempted escape, conspiracy and assaulting/injuring a peace officer while serving time in a correctional facility.
