Police say the 32-year-old woman was shot and wounded in the 600 block of North Huntington Street just before 6:30 p.m. Police also said a 21-year-old woman was assaulted.
Both women were taken to the hospital. The shooting victim is in stable condition. The other woman suffered minor injuries.
A suspect, described by police as an adult male Hispanic, was believed to be holed up inside a Pomona apartment. Police say when they went in, no one was there.
There is no word on what led to the attack, and the crime does not appear to be gang-related, police said.
