The 12 Beards of Christmas: men getting festive with their facial hair
What better way to celebrate Christmas than by decorating your, or your male friends', facial hair? Take a look at some of these inventive beards from the "12 Beards of Christmas" calendar:
The calendar's creator, photographer Stephanie Jarstad, told ABC that she originally created a beard calendar for all seasons to raise awareness for men's health. After the success of that calendar, Jarstad created this one just for Christmas time.
Each bear features festive holiday ornaments and decorum usually reserved for a Christmas tree.
"I would walk around craft stores and think, 'This is small enough and would make a good Christmas beard!,'" Jarstad told ABC.
Jarstad didn't know any of her bearded models beforehand, but said they all bonded together during the shoot. When snapping the photos, Jarstad was able to get the holiday smiles out of models with "A lot of laughter and Christmas cheer. My favorite quote would have to be, 'Deck the halls with beards of holly, fa la la la la...!' I love a good pun."
Though tragedy struck this December, when Houston Holbrook, a friend of Jarstad's lost his battle to Leukemia last week. In honor of her original goals, Jarstad donated all proceeds of the calendar's sales before Christmas to help pay the hospital bills incurred on Holbrook's family.
The Holbrook family's GoFundMe campaign is still ongoing, having raised about half of the $25,000 goal.
