NEW YORK -- U2 lead singer Bono was injured in a bicycle accident in New York's Central Park, prompting the band to cancel an upcoming week-long stint on the "Tonight Show."

The band made the announcement on their website Sunday. According to the message, Bono will require some surgery to his arm due to the accident.

U2 was supposed to appear on the "Tonight Show" starting Monday.

"It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time -- we're one man down," said a note on the U2 website from "Edge, Adam and Larry" -- The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen, Jr.

Bono had just arrived from London, where U2 and several other stars recorded a Christmas song that will raise money to fight Ebola in Africa.
